FINE ART PRINTS
WHAT IS GICLEE?
Giclee (pronounced "zhee-clay") is the French term for fine spray. Each giclee print is composed of more than 4 million ink droplets capable of creating in excess of 500 shades of rich color with outstanding texture and density and unsurpassed color fidelity and longevity. The pigment based process produces fine, one of a kind unique works of art in highly collectible editions. The quality of the Giclee Print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries and photographic galleries. Giclee printing is more environmentally friendly than the old wet-chemical method of producing photographic prints.
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE IN MAKING YOUR PRINTS?
I use only the highest professional quality printers, paper, inks and mats that produce unrivalled precision, durability and quality.
PRINTERS: My printers utilize the latest MicroPiezo AMC Print Head Technology that offers a maximum resolution of 2880 x 1440. This technology produces variable sized droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters to optimize photographic quality and consistently provides extremely sharp and accurate placement of ink droplets.
PAPER: I use Epson 10-mil RC based Professional Archival Luster Photo paper that, combined with the Ultra Chrome K3, has a remarkable lightfast rating of over 100 years under glass as rated by Wilhelm Imaging Research.
INKS: I use the industry leading Ultra Chrome K3 three pigment-based ink for a greater resistance to ozone, humidity and water than dye based inks. The Advanced 8-color pigment based ink system uses 3-level black ink technology for remarkable accuracy and photo rich shadowing. It produces the highest color gamut available for vivid color reproduction and highest quality output. The characteristics of this new pigment chemistry provide consistent color under various lighting conditions, virtually eliminate the metamerism effect which is when a print appears different under various light sources, ie: fluorescent vs. incandescent lighting.
MATS: I use only acid free archival museum quality mats available in many sizes and colors. Please also refer to the PRODUCT INFORMATION tab for mat size and color information.
WHAT IS A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY?
My Certificate of Authenticity is a document that confirms the picture is an original. It includes the picture name, number, size as well as information on what materials and processes were used to print it. It includes my signature, official seal and contact information. Many States require that a Certificate of Authenticity accompany a limited edition print.
HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY FINE ART PRINT?
Although your fine art print is made with the finest materials available, you will want to take reasonable care to insure that you are able to enjoy it for many years to come. Any print should be protected from exposure to direct sunlight and extremes in temperature and humidity. Rapid changes in temperature and humidity can also cause condensation, which may stain the print or mat and promote the growth of mold. Even moderate changes in temperature and humidity can occasionally cause your print to buckle. This should correct itself when the conditions return to normal. The lightfast rating of 100 years is based on the picture being framed, under glass protection. Best conditions are out of direct sunlight. The process I use offers the ultimate protection against fading & moisture problems.
