The dramatic story of Friends Good Will speaks to the history of commerce in the early 1800s, as well as her role in the War of 1812. Please read her importance to that war on the ships website below.  Reconstructed to honor the original, todays current Friends Good Will departed from the ship yard of Scarano Boatbuilding, Inc. in Albany, New York for South Haven, Michigan on August 29, 2004.
Operated by the Michigan Maritime Museum, the sloop Friends Good Will promotes tourism in West Michigan by providing the public with a wide variety of cultural and educational experiences.  The historic replica is the only Tall Ship to sail the Great Lakes with a state-of-the-art, interactive, floating classroom designed for year-round instruction.  Friends Good Will, fully U.S. Coast Guard approved for passengers, is available for day sails, as well as private charters.
In 2005, the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse, deemed excess by the Coast Guard, was offered at no cost to eligible entities, including federal, state, and local agencies, non-profit corporations, and educational organizations under the provisions of the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000. Though it took a few years, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar initiated the transfer of the lighthouse to the City of Chicago on February 24, 2009. The city had designated the lighthouse a Chicago Landmark in 2003.
