Manitowoc Pierhead Lighthouse
SKU: 5646
Built in 1918 on a breakwater out into Lake Michigan, the Manitowoc Pierhead Lighthouse sits at the mouth of the Manitowoc River. The current 1918 Manitowoc Lighthouse replaced the earlier 1840 brick tower and the 1850 wooden tower. Fully automated in 1971, the white signal flashes on for three seconds and off for three seconds to aid navigation. Since 1843 there have an estimated 50 shipwrecks in the area between Manitowoc and Two Rivers, most occurring around the turn of the century.
