SKU: 5492
Freighters like the Kay E. Barker pass by the Presque Isle Harbor Breakwater light on a regular basis. Built in 1952 by the American Ship building Company and originally named Edward B. Green, the ship was sold to Rouge Steel Division of Ford Motor Company in 1985 and renamed Benson Ford. In 1989 it was sold to Interlake S.S. Company and renamed Kaye E. Barker. The Presque Isle Harbor Breakwater beacon is located at the end of a 2600 foot breakwater near the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad ore dock. Built of concrete and steel in 1941, it assists freighters picking up loads of taconite. It is owned and maintained by the USCG.
