Old Mission Point Lighthouse
SKU: 5466
Lake Michigan's 1870 Old Mission Point Lighthouse sits on the 45th parallel, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. It was an essential navigational guide during the late 1800s and early 1900s during the lumber boom of that era. The 30-foot white, square wooden tower sits on the roof of the 1.5 story clapboard sided keeper's dwelling and resembles an old one-room schoolhouse. Decommissioned in 1933, the lighthouse eventually was transferred to Peninsula Township in 1948. Managed as a park today, the lighthouse serves as the residence for the park's caretaker.
