Petoskey Pierhead Light

The Petoskey Pierhead Light was established in 1899. The current tower was built in 1930 at the end of the west pier. It is owned by the USCG and is an active aid to navigation. The city of Petoskey was first named Porter's Village in 1865. The area is renown for it's "Petoskey Stone", a rock made of fragments of a coral reef that was originally deposited 350 million years ago during the Devonian period. It is the state stone of Michigan.
