Point Betsie Lighthouse
SKU: 5457
The majestic 1858 Point Betsie Lighthouse is nestled in the beautiful Michigan sand dunes along Lake Michigan's eastern shoreline. Its beacon is 52 ft above lake level and has a range of 27 miles. In October of 1874, Point Betsie was selected as a life-saving station sight. The last manned light on Lake Michigan's eastern shores, it was automated in 1983 and now owned by Benzie County. The USCG retained rights for the light operation. One of the most important navigational aids on Lake Michigan, Point Betsie now preserves Great Lakes maritime history in it's museum operated by the Friends of Point Betsie Lighthouse, Inc. Just South of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and just north of Frankfort, Michigan, it is a favorite tourist destination and offers spectacular Lake Michigan sunsets.
