Duluth South Breakwater Light
SKU: 5617
The 1901 Duluth South Breakwater Light continues to guide ships from Lake Superior into the Port of Duluth. The Duluth harbor has long been one of the world's largest seaports. Dating back to the 1800s, the growth in shipping of lumber, ore and produce to the other Great Lakes industrial areas resulted in the need for improved safety on the often perilous Lake Superior. Minnesota Point stretches seven miles across a bay in front of the St. Louis River and consists of the longest freshwater sand bar in the world. The South Breakwater Lighthouse is one of the three lighthouses assisting vessels from Lake Superior through the narrow 300 ft. wide canal.
