Escanaba Sand Point Lighthouse
SKU: 5418
Escanaba's Sand Point Lighthouse guided mariners around the sand reef of Little Bay De Noc continuously from 1868 until 1939. It is located in Ludington Park on the north shore of Lake Michigan. Beginning in the mid 1800's, Escanaba became a major port shipping out iron ore, lumber and fish for Chicago markets. The heavy waterway shipping diminished by 1939 and the Coast Guard remodeled the building to house seamen assigned to Escanaba until 1985. Abandoned, the Delta County Historical Society then leased the building and painstakenly restored it to it's appearance at the turn of the 20th century. They proudly opened it to the public in 1990.
