Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse
SKU: 5410
Wisconsin's Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse is located at the mouth of the Ahnapee River on Lake Michigan. The area is also known as "Christmas Tree Ship Point". A nearby marker is dedicated to those who lost their lives transporting Christmas trees to Milwaukee and Chicago in the late 1800s and early 1900s. One of those schooners, "Lady Ellen" is still located upriver in its final resting place. The best known captain of one of the 52 schooners, "Rouse Simmons" was Captain Herman Schuenemann - born in Algoma. The present tower is 42' tall and was automated in 1973.
