Big Sable Point Lighthouse

Perched on a beautiful sand beach the Big Sable Lighthouse stands tall protecting mariners navigating a treacherous stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline. It was completed in 1867 in an area that had seen many shipwrecks during the mid 1800s lumber shipping boom. The tower is 112' tall. Just north of Ludington Michigan, inside Ludington State Park, the lighthouse was fully automated in 1966 and is now part of the Lighthouse Volunteer Keeper Program that offers a two week stay to those willing to maintain the facilities as well as give tours and work at the gift shop.
