Green Bay Grassy Island Range Lights
SKU: 5272
By the early 1960s, thirty five sawmills were operating at full steam along the Fox River. The Army Corps of Engineers began work in 1867 cutting and dredging an improved channel into the river through the middle of Grassy Island. In 1866 two Grassy Island Range Lights were built in 676 feet apart. In 1966 severe deterioration from their exposed location prompted the decision to destroy the beacons and widen the channel. Members of the Green Bay Yacht Club relocated the lights to the Yacht Club property, then onto piers on two sides of the Yacht Club entrance in 1999. To date, restoration work continues.
