Cana Island Lighthouse - Door County
SKU: 5268
1870 Cana Island Lighthouse is one of the most picturesque settings on the Great Lakes. Built on 8.7 acre Cana Island, between Moonlight Bay and North Bay, it is accessible by a stone causeway over the shallow waters. A famous storm in October 1880, the "Alpena Gale" flooded the house so severely, in 1890 the Lighthouse Board ordered the filling of 1/2 acre of low swampy land surrounding the lighthouse. Maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard since WWII, the Door County Maritime Museum has leased the lighthouse since the 1970s. Fully automated it continues to guide mariners and is one of the most visited attractions in Wisconsin's Door County. Shown matted in White over Tan.
