Eagle Bluff Lighthouse - Door County
SKU: 5265
Just off the shore of Peninsula State Park in Wisconsin's upper Door County, lies one of the two shipping channels between the city of Green Bay and harbors north and east. Great Lakes travel and shipping to the area greatly increased by the mid 1800s. The narrow and treacherous channel was in dire need of a navigational aid. Built in a remote area of the wilderness in 1868, the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse was constructed at a cost of $12,000. After automation in 1926, the keeper's house remained empty and gradually deteriorated. In 1960 the Door County Historical Society began restoration and eventually opened it as a museum.
